Westminster Baptist Church Spring Fling, Flea Market, and Car Show June 2, 2012

On June 2 at Westminster Baptist Church we had 13 cars show up for their Spring Fling, Flea Market, and Car Show. The car show featured our club and a few other cars, a ’55 Chevy, a ’69 Dodge, a ’59 Chevy and a late Chrysler convertible. Our members bringing cars were Bud Carroll, Butch Cornes, John Creeden, Danny Godfrey, Mike Grear, Milt Hartig, Les Holden, Dave Kehne, Tom Kortisses, Ken and Vicki Miller, John Miller, Steve Myer, and Dave Sturges. Jack and Carol Burke also at-tended but came modern. I hope I did not forget anyone. John Creeden probably came farther than anyone else as he lives in Silver Spring, MD. John is 91 years young and drives his “A” to a lot of our functions. Great job, John.

Some of our members took advantage of the flea market to pick up bargains. Tom Kortisses and Milt Hartig picked up doilies for their back seats, but the best bargain was picked up by John Creeden who got an original newspaper from Philadelphia dated August 15, 1945, the day World War II ended. He stated that since he was in Guam repairing carrier planes that day, he had never seen the headlines in a newspaper until now!

We all had a great day which started off with coffee and doughnuts in the morning followed by just a lot of good conversation and fellowship with each other plus the locals. We were given tickets for hotdogs and drinks for an afternoon snack. The weather was great and we stayed until about 1:30 p.m. There was even live Christian music during the day and a playground with attendants, though we don’t seem to need that feature anymore, but I guess we could bring grandchildren or even great grand-children along in the future.
