September 28 was a Goldilocks day, not too hot, not too cold, just right. By 11 o’clock that morning Susan and Steve Meyer’s lawn had been perfectly manicured, the kitchen was immaculate, and lawn furniture and tables were being arranged. My son Robert and I arrived with the groceries and within a short time everything was ready for the picnic. The Model A’s began arriv-ing at 1 o’clock sharp and within the hour 17 cars were neatly arranged in a line on the lawn and 29 picnickers were ready to party. Drinks, salads, and luscious desserts covered the serving table. Susan was busy grilling on the patio and eager helpers were shuttling trays of hot dogs, extra large ham-burgers, and roasted chicken to the picnic area where clusters of chairs pro-vided convenient gathering sites for relaxing, eating, and visiting.
